For my CS401 class at Worcester State, we had to form groups and choose an open source project to work with through the semester. My group chose to work with Dreamwidth. We've had a few meetings, and done a bit of work (that was mostly comparing different projects and choosing one to work with). While I'm familiar with perl and the DW dev environment, the rest of my group isn't.

Today, I spent a portion of the class period configuring our group's DreamHack, and reconfiguring mine after I had to rebuild it. I am very, very good at screwing up my dev environment and having to rebuild the entire thing in order to fix whatever I screwed up.

Yes, that is how badly I manage to screw it up.

So, I've got it down to a science. I think that I've got it down to five or so minutes from start to finish. It would be shorter if I remembered to back up my scripts before I rebuild, instead of just rewriting them each time. On the other hand, that means I have the scripts mostly memorized by this point.

I also collected a selection of effort-minor bugs for us to start working on, so that the others can get familiar with everything. Those have been saved to my delicious account under the dreamwidth:effort-minor tag.

There are still some things that need to be ironed out, especially with regard to how we're going to work bugzilla as a group and the like, but we're well on our way to having a solid start.

For ever and ever, we say when we are young, or in our prayers. Twice, we say it. Old One, do we not? For ever and ever ... so that a thing may be for ever, a life or a love or a quest, and yet begin again, and be for ever just as before. And any ending that may seem to come is not truly an ending, but an illusion. For Time does not die, Time has neither beginning nor end, and so nothing can end or die that has once had a place in Time.
